Chopin | Nocturne n. 20 in C sharp min, op. posth. (1875)

Published posthumous in 1875, 26 years after Chopin’s death, the Nocturne n. 20 in C sharp min is indeed a juvenile composition of his, composed in 1830 at the age of 20 and originally conceived under the generic name of Lento con gran espressione rather than a nocturne. Nonetheless, its elegant and dreamlike melody accompanied by haunting arpeggios of the initial and final sections, as well as the harmonic and melodic inventive of the Pianissimo central part, rich of citations of other Chopin’s compositions, made this “nocturne” one of the most recognized piano pieces of the romantic era and a piece of choice for several movie films.
